The Goods Shed

The Mac Point Goods Shed is a popular public space used for a range of events including concerts, art exhibitions, theatre performances, wine and gin launches, bridal expos, etc. The 1914 heritage-listed shed features Oregon roof beams and has the capacity to hold approximately 1550 people.

More than 80,000 people have attended events in the Goods Shed since 1 July 2017. These numbers are predicted to skyrocket during 2018-2019 with increasing interest for hiring the shed.

As part of an in-kind sponsorship the shed is provided free of charge to She Shreds, an all-girls skateboarding group with about 100 members and Misha’s Mate, supporting veterans and first responders to train and certify their own assistance dogs.

The Corporation is undertaking works to improve the amenity of the shed. An architect has been engaged and worked with key users of the shed to draft plans to refurbish the shed for better functionality. Refurbishments underway include:

  • Installation of new toilets;
  • Installation of curtains throughout the main part of the shed for partitioning and sound dampening;
  • Refurbishment of old offices into multi-purpose spaces for use as: meeting spaces, artist green rooms, storage areas, and collaborative working areas.
  • Upgrade of switchboard and better distribution of power and water throughout the shed.
