Planning amendments pave way for $1 million road construction
Plans are underway for the next stage of development at Macquarie Point, with a development application now lodged with the Hobart City Council for the construction of a $1 million road into the site.
Macquarie Point Development Corporation CEO, Mary Massina said the construction of the road is the next major step in opening up the land for development.
“Constructing the road will give us greater access to the site, and help prepare the way for the first parcels of land that will be offered for development on site.”
“Lodging the plans to construct the road could only proceed once changes to the planning rules were gazetted and now that this has been achieved, its full steam ahead.” Ms Massina said.
The Planning Commission last month endorsed the Government’s amendments to enable the revised masterplan for the site to be implemented.
“Having the plans gazetted means all the work that went into changing the planning scheme and legislation is now fully complete.”
“The work that has been done to make these changes mean the site will be fit-for-purpose to ensure the precinct delivers a vibrant cultural hub.”
“We will start to see some action in the next few months on site with the remediation work soon to start and plans for the road now lodged.” Ms Massina concluded.
The first parcels of land are expected to go to market in the first half of 2020.
