Mac Point is a site rich in history and has played a significant role in the formation of Hobart’s landscape and society as we know it today.

The site has played a varied and colourful part in Hobart’s history. The Hobart area was home to the Muwinina band of the South East Tribe and evidence of their activity has been found in the site’s surrounds.

Mac Point has a long history of use associated with early European settlement, including defence, sanitation, industry, including the Hobart gasworks, and transport.

Until recently, the site was predominantly used as a railyards and for freight handling.
